New Gamelan Set
Saturday, September 8 2007 was a historical day for our sanggar. We bought gamelan set to complete the ones we already have. Now we have complete set, in fact we have two sets. One is for Cokean and the other is for anything. We are so happy with the gamelan even though we have lots of work polishing the gamelan. The instruments were owned by the owner of Queen of the South Hotel in Parangtritis beach. The hotel is stop operating after the earthquake in Jogja in 2006. The gamelan were left behind and no one playing it for more than a year. it turned green because of the vapor of the sea water. We have to rub it and polish it so it will shine again. We got the gamelan with relatively cheap price. Actually, it was incredibly cheap. With the quality and the history of the instruments, we couldn't believe it at first. Even now we still find it hard to believe. The previous owner said that she bought the gamelan for her hotel from the second wife of the first president of Indonesia. Thus, the gamelan really have history. It was owned by Moeryati, Soekarno's wife. Now, we are ready to have latihan on a regular basis!!!
